Commercial Driver’s License Program

Drivers seeking information about the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program medical requirements should start by visiting the FMCSA’s Commercial Driver’s License Program website and the CDL Medical Overview and Medical Programs pages.  The Medical Programs page provides links to commonly requested information and documents.

Distracted Driving

The FMCSA and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) have published rules specifically prohibiting interstate truck and bus drivers and drivers who transport placardable quantities of hazardous materials from texting or using hand-held mobile phones while operating their vehicles.
